No. 4 · Privacy & family
Where your photos live. And where they don't.
Photo Tape was built so that there is nothing of ours to trust. Here is every place a photo, a note or a name can be, drawn on one page.
the trip a photo takes
Your iPhone
You take today's photo and pick a look. Nothing leaves until you post it.
Your iCloud
Your private iCloud database, under your Apple Account. Photos, notes, reactions and albums are stored here.
Their iPhone
Apple's iCloud lets the people you share with read that day. Remove someone and their access ends.
An album
Its keeper's iCloud
Photos posted to an album are stored in the keeper's iCloud, where every member can see them. Leave and your access ends.
Apple's public iCloud
Never a photo
Only the sticker catalogue, stickers a Plus member chooses to publish, follow requests (a first name and an emoji, gone after 30 days), letters about a sticker or a note (gone after 14 days) and sticker reports, all with anonymous IDs.
Photo Tape
Our servers
There aren't any. No account with us, no copy of your photos, nothing to breach.
What we can see
Straight from the privacy policy, row by row.
Family
The family chat, as a book.
Start an album with a name and an emoji and pick its cloth. Anyone who scans its code joins, and joining never makes anyone follow anyone else.
- The keeper holds the book. It lives in their iCloud, and they can remove or block a member.
- Leave whenever you like. Your access ends when you go.
- One Plus for the family. Plus Forever is shared with your Family Sharing group.
- Nothing asked of you. Camera, Photos and Notifications are each optional, and each can be changed in Settings.
Questions
Can Photo Tape see my photos?
No. They're stored in your private iCloud and read by the people you share them with, through Apple's iCloud. We have no server they pass through.
Does my family need an account?
Only the iCloud account already on their iPhone.
Who can see an album?
Its members. The keeper can remove or block anyone, and anyone can leave.
Is the website private too?
The website uses Google Analytics to count visits. The app has none of it.
